~@}--,-'----~

I am sitting here in the basement, the red onions from my hastily gobbled sub still threatening to declare my breath a no-fly zone. I am sitting here, scared to go into the other room because the tv is on there. The tv is on there with news. And, tonight, in Canada there are only 2 stories. One of them is the no doubt brutal beating the Ottawa Senators are applying to the Toronto Maple Leafs. The second of course, is how our country is going to explode in a fiery deluge of Christianity and rigidity. That's right, kids. It's election time.

I always vote. Let's just establish that. I vote firstly because I think that too many women busted their humps to get me that vote for me not to. Secondly, I like to complain. And if I don't register an opinion, I don't get to complain. Even if that complaint is the need to abolish the First-Past-the-Post voting system altogether, i like to yell like a foghorn. I like to complain, so I like to vote. Lastly, I feel like not voting does shit. No, it doesn't "send a message". Well, okay. It does "send a message" but that message is "the youth doesn't care so let's shit in their faces." And i don't know about you, but there's nothing I like less than a face full of shit.

So. There's the three. The ladies, the yelling, and the shit-less face. But even though I could go on and on about the need to voice your opinion... I'm really scared this time that it won't be enough. While i do believe in the mantra that the Liberals won't steal all your money, the NDP won't spend all your money and the Conservatives will not build a church in your den... I am worried. I am not a big fan of strategic voting and I am not a big fan of scare tactics but... oh man.

I love you America. I really do. I love that you're so loud and noisy and your people are hard-working and you make good greasy food and have funny accents. You're great. But... politcally? I don't want to *be* you. I mean, Bush is kind of funny and all. He's got that weird little laugh and that need to give everything/one a nickname but.. I would rather give the guy a beer than any political clout.

I'm just so mixed up about what's probably going to happen tonight. My mom said if the Cons get a majority rule of parliament that we're moving. I laughed.

"To where?"
[pause]
"Austria."

So there's that to look forward to, maybe. *sigh* I don't know. To vote for a party that is anti-woman, anti-gay and anti-minority just to *punish* the liberals? Doesn't sound like the ass-beating's going to the right person, you know? My country is slipping through my fingers and all I can do is watch. And despite my enjoyment of CBCs coverage... I feel that, even though I voted with my heart and tried to make a difference.. come january 24th, I'm still going to wake up to a face full of shit.
